The Master of Management Studies Program at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business is an intense 10 month long Master's program covering 15 courses ranging from Corporate Finance and Capital Markets to Strategy and Operations over 5 rigorous 6 week terms. With the spirit of Team Fuqua and a Case based teaching methodology facilitated by the same world class faculty of the Duke MBA.
The MMS Program has given me an opportunity to interact with and work with the brightest people from across the world. My classmates consist of entrepreneurs, athletes, musicians, people with experience in a variety of industries and even a nurse! There is so much that I learn from these people every single day. Our classes are case based and the Professors facilitate discussions on a variety of issues. Through the various cases that we work on, I have also gained a lot of knowledge about various industries and my curiosity has made me go back and research more about these industries. Learning from some of the best professors in the world is just another treat.
Being in the MMS program I am studying some core management and finance subjects. But most of all Business School has been a journey of self discovery as we are constantly given feedback for our work. These are some of the qualities I discovered about myself:
LEADERSHIP
My coach, my team, my friends, the MBTI and the Career Leader Assessment all tell me that I have strong leadership skills. I have always believed this to be true. I demonstrated strong leadership during my role as the Jt. General Secretary at VJTI. I want to become an entrepreneur one day and this skill is going to help me the most while I am on that journey.
ENTHUSIASM
After the Triangle Training Session, when we were sitting with our teams and reflecting upon each one of our strengths and weaknesses, my teammate Lily pointed out that I am a very enthusiastic and energetic person. I am that person who is ready to go out after a long tiring day. I am the one who is ready to put in an extra two hours on an assignment. I am always charged up and when people around me are feeling low or tensed or stressed, I am very good at uplifting their mood and getting them energized. Even in VJTI, one of the students working with me once came up to me and said that she was amazed by the fact that I always had a smile on my face. She loved that I was always encouraging them to get better at their work and meet their targets sooner while giving them incentives and showing them rosy pictures of the result to encourage them to do better.
ORGANIZED AND LOGICAL APPROACH
My team has noticed that when there is a problem put in front of me, my approach towards it is completely different. I tend to organize what I read/hear while I am reading it and by the end of the reading, I have a plan of how to go about solving the problem step-by-step. This organized and logical approach toward problem solving has helped me think differently in class and while doing assignments with my team.
HUNGRY FOR KNOWLEDGE
As a result of my hunger to learn as much as possible, I end up talking to a lot people. I love listening to people talk about their life and experience. This makes me a great listener, which is a quality that I value a lot because this is what has helped me stand out always. I am on a path of constant discovery and I believe that one can never stop learning.
VISION
I am a visionary. I always make big plans and then work out the smaller goals and milestones to get to that big goal. I think this is a very vital strength because this enables me to look at the larger picture and make better decisions.
